The seeds of the plants don't choose where they land, just as we do not choose where we are born.

Growing up, my mum was a very keen gardener. Because if this the garden tap became a symbol that I have used in my works over and over again.

I noticed when I was a little girl that the grass always grew much longer around the base of the tap, and as it got further away it became much dryer and the grass grew slower and shorter.

‘Where we Grow’ uses this image as a metaphor to represent humanity and the various circumstances that different people find themselves in.

Some of us are born into a wealthy family situation, or a country with prosperity, others grow up in poverty, and every circumstance in between.

I used houses in place of the plants, a collaboration of architectural styles to represent different countries and varying degrees of wealth and quality of life.

I hope that this image helps us see each other in a fairer light, that we are all the same in the end… because the seeds of plants don't choose where they land, just as we do not choose where we are born.

Our own seed could have very easily fallen much much further from the garden tap.
